Kidpower India has partnered with the LCF to work towards cancer awareness, prevention, and early diagnosis in Visakhapatnam. We are grateful for the support extended by MVP Cancer Hospital and HCG Pinnacle, Visakhapatnam. Together, we aim to make a positive impact in the fight against cancer.

CANCER AWARENESS TALKS

The awareness talks were conducted in the slum areas as well as in schools. In the schools, the girls were explained about Cervical Cancer and breast cancer For eg: Cervical Cancer can be prevented by smear screening and an HPV (human peplum vaccine) vaccine. If any girl has more doubts then the doctor would talk to them personally or invite them to the hospital for free screening.

In the slum areas and villages, the awareness talk is focused on a) Creating awareness and removing the stigma and fear, b) Recognising early cancer symptoms, thus enabling them to seek early treatment. c)

Educating people about the key risk factors and habits to avoid to prevent cancer and d) Explaining the importance of regular check-ups. If any of the participants inform that they have symptoms then they are referred to the hospital where free or subisidised tests and care were provided.

Medical Camps

A general checkup is done for people who attend the medical camps. When the doctor finds specific cancer symptoms then the testing is done in a separate room or referred to the hospital. We are conducting the medical camps with the partnership of MVP Cancer Hospital and HCG Pinnacle.

In the medical camps conducted in partnership with HCG Pinnacle, the suspected patient is referred to the main hospital and all tests are done for free. There is a counsellor at the hospital who helps the patient to be strong and plan the scheduled visits to the hospital. While in the camps conducted by the MVP Cancer Hospital, there is a mobile bus and the medical team and counsellor are available in the camp. On the bus, there is an ultrasound scanner, a medical lab, and blood analysis also can be done. We are grateful to both the hospital for this valuable service to the poor.
